It’s been a busy month for Blair Pathways, and this spring it’s only going to get busier! Our biggest accomplishment is that all the songs for the CD have been pitched (and most of them confirmed) with a given artist. That means that almost all the pieces for the project are now out in the world, being interpreted and arranged by a musician or group of musicians. We hope to have all of our recordings in by the end of April. Some songs were assigned a month to two months earlier, and have already been recorded and sent to us!  Jordan and I have been excited to finally get to listen to music that will be going on the CD- and the pieces we’ve heard so far sound amazing! As these songs have shown up in our inboxes from folks like Sam Gleaves, Morgan O’Kane, Elizabeth Laprelle and Brett Ratliff, the project has started to really come alive. To our knowledge, some of these songs have never been recorded before- In some cases, our musicians are only working off of lyrics and historic context clues to create these arrangements. Revitalization of these long forgotten pieces is, for me, one of the most thrilling elements of this project- It’s as if people who haven’t spoken in nearly 100 years have been able to find a voice again and sing out their convictions. Blair Pathways fans will soon have a chance to listen to these pieces, since they’ll be a part of a sampler CD we’ll have ready in just a few weeks. Listening to these initial works has been like receiving the first few pieces of a bigger puzzle- each work has its own unique way in which it will help to tell the narrative of the mine wars. As more pieces are submitted, they will be woven together to form a 20-year narrative of the mine wars.

In other news, I’ve been working on CD layout and art, having discussions about website development, working on the project’s copyright needs and placing profiles about our artists on the website (Check out our new artist page, and read musician’s statements about why they are involved in the Blair Pathways Project!). Most of all I’ve been preparing for our upcoming fundraiser! We will be conducting one more fundraiser to cover costs of the Project’s second (and final) phase: recording, production and publishing. We are planning on starting this fundraiser mid-March, but supporters are welcome to donate anytime before then using paypal, and are still guaranteed all the gifts and goodies that are promised on our “Donate” page.

In the coming weeks, expect to see new CD and web art, hear some amazing music tracks and see a new video about the project made by Jordan. As always, please spread the word about this project as much as you can!
